Choquequiraro is a significant archaeological site very interest full of history and mystery. Many consider that the place is much larger than Machu Picchu and much more interesting. Only 40% of the total area was rescued, the rest is covered in vegetation but it is still very interesting and worth visiting. The only way to get there is by walking, usually takes four days to attend two days hiking to reach the Inca site and one day to explore the are and then return along the same path. TREK TO CHOQUEQUIRAO:

The archaeological complex of Choqekiraw (3,061 masl), which means "Cradle of Gold", is located on the northwestern border of the Cusco and Apurimac regions, in the Cordillera de Vilcabamba.
Choqekiraw was possibly built by the Inca Tupac Yupanqui, as an important ceremonial center, and ended up being the last refuge of the rebellious Incas, led by Manco Inca II, in his escape from the invaders by the Cordillera de Vilcabamba.
In this place, we can find squares, water sources, and ritual centers. Also Inca architecture structures and impressive agricultural platforms systems, with irrigation channels that show a high development of hydraulic engineering.
Recent studies propose that Choqequirau was the female complement of the Sacred Citadel of Machu Picchu, within the dual system and sacred geography, under which the Andean civilization developed.
Within the platform system, the site called Pacchayoc stands out, from where you can see the ravine (and waterfall) that provides water to Choquequiraw, as well as a large platform system, which probably goes to the vicinity of the Apurimac River. We also find a ceremonial rock for rituals related to agricultural activity.
Another important sector is the so-called "Llamayoq", a system of platforms decorated with 23 llamas and a shepherd, outlined with white stones, overlooking the snow-capped Qoriwayrachina. An interesting feature of these platforms, is the vertical position of the stones in the wall of containment of these.
Temperatures range from 5ºC / 41ºF, at night, to 23ºC / 73ºF at Half Day. The climate is semi arid / sub humid, crossing the valley of the Apurimac river, humidity comes from the environment. The surroundings of the archaeological complex, the climate corresponds to the humid forest. The seasons are divided into dry (April - October) and rains (November - March), with persistent precipitation.
